Our Practice
Central Coordination & Facilitation
We lead the overall facilitation and coordination of the Compliance & Ethics Program. We bring administrative structure to the university's compliance obligations, working to bridge the gap between high-level oversight and daily operations.
Distributed Campus Engagement
We coordinate directly with key constituencies and operational areas across the entire university, helping distributed departments understand their specific compliance requirements and implement best practices.
Compliance Guidance & Consultation
We provide practical guidance to departments, colleges, and administrative units on compliance questions, emerging requirements, and institutional responsibilities. By working collaboratively with stakeholders, we help identify effective, risk-informed solutions that support university operations.
Training & Compliance Awareness
We develop educational resources, communications, and outreach initiatives that strengthen awareness of compliance responsibilities and ethical expectations. We help university units understand their responsibilities, implement effective practices, and promote a culture of integrity.
Our Approach
Virginia Tech is a large, decentralized, research-intensive university with compliance responsibilities shared across many offices and functional areas. The Office of Compliance and Ethics takes a collaborative, service-oriented, risk-based approach by partnering with compliance risk owners, university leadership, and stakeholders to identify risks, strengthen ethical decision-making, develop practical solutions, and promote a culture where ethical conduct and regulatory compliance are integrated into everyday decision-making. We provide guidance, education, and coordination that promote integrity, accountability, and responsible stewardship across the university.
